Gorgeous and green with new Essentielle range

Glossy locks are always desirable but not at the expense of the environment. No-one wants their hair care routine to cost the earth but few of us are ready to give up the shampoo and conditioner. This is why sustainable, natural beauty is big news right now.

A new, natural haircare range from L’Oreal offers the expertise and professional finish you’d expect from L’Oreal but with natural ingredients, sustainable packaging and a new attitude to beauty. There’s even the opportunity to refill your recyclable shampoo bottles in salon! The result is guilt-free gorgeousness.

So how have the L’Oreal team combined natural and professional? Salon Ten owner Nicky Marcar answers the top five questions about L’Oreal’s new Source Essentielle line.

Tell us about these new products?

L’Oreal Professional have just launched their first ever natural hair care collection called Source Essentielle. The products are made from 80-99% naturally derived ingredients. They are natural, vegan and free from silicone. The range consists of a Daily Shampoo with acacia leaves and aloe essence; Delicate Shampoo containing calendula and chamomile flowers; Nourishing Shampoo with jasmine flowers; Radiance Balm containing fig pulp and soybean oil; Daily Detangling Cream full of aloe essence and argania spinosa kernel oil; and Nourishing Balm with sesame oil, sunflower seed oil and coconut oil.

What’s so great about natural?

Hair and beauty products are often full of synthetic chemicals that mean nothing to the average user. Chemicals can strip hair of natural oils, leading to frizzy, flyaway locks, where as gentle ingredients in nature are often far more soothing on your scalp and hair. Chemicals are potentially harmful to your body and, of course, to the planet. Chemicals which gush down the drain end up in oceans and the water system.

What’s so bad about plastic?

Few of us could fail to be moved by devastating scenes of ocean wildlife in crisis due to discarded plastic in David Attenborough’s Blue Planet II, and it’s not just about ditching the straw in your cocktails. The more we can recycle, reuse or choose other materials where possible the better. Source Essentielle bottles are made from recycled and recyclable plastic. Even better, at Salon Ten we offer a refilling service – the shampoo bottles can be refilled directly in salon up to three times to save the equivalent of the weight of a bottle every three refills hence a 30% reduction of plastic used.

Have L’Oreal scrapped synthetics altogether?

The Source Essentielle products range from 80% up to 99% natural depending on the product. L’Oreal have used natural wherever possible but occasionally a synthetic ingredient is necessary to keep to the high standards everyone expects from L’Oreal haircare.

Does a ‘green’ product mean virtuous but a bit dull?

No! Far from it. The Source Essentielle range feels light but luxurious and has a delicious scent of natural florals and oils. What’s more, the packaging looks good enough to display on your bathroom shelf, not looking out of place alongside your designer perfume. Not bad considering the shape was designed to hold a maximum amount of product in a minimum amount of plastic, and for ease of stacking, packing and transportation, meaning fewer delivery journeys and a reduced carbon footprint.

So, if you’re looking for natural ingredients with professional expertise, then Source Essentielle is for you. Pop into the shop or buy online and we guarantee you’ll be back for a refill when the last drop of goodness is gone!
