In the business of winning!

Salon Ten is celebrating after winning the award for Best Small Business in the Shropshire Chamber Business Awards.

The salon is, of course, no stranger to awards but this one is a little bit different as its judged on the entire business model rather than hair and beauty expertise (although that is still vital!).

The Salon Ten team won the prestigious accolade (in the 6-20 employees category) in a glittering black tie ceremony held at Telford International Centre last month.

Salon Ten owner Nicky Marcar was delighted that her salon and staff impressed judges at the county-wide competition which recognises the best of Shropshire businesses.

The salon, which was launched in Much Wenlock in 2007, was judged on its high level of success in all areas including for its competitive service, strategic plans, innovative approach and commitment to staff development. After being shortlisted, the salon was then visited by three judges before finally being crowned the Best Small Business winner.

Over the past 11 years Salon Ten has grown, gained staff, moved premises and expanded into new and exciting areas of the hair care industry to create an award-winning one-stop-shop for all client’s treatments in a beautifully converted Grade II-listed Malthouse.

No stranger to winning, Salon Ten has previously been named as finalist at the English Hair and Beauty Awards for the past two years, is one of only 10 salons in the UK to be a Gold Class elite salon and has a 5-star rating in the Good Salon Guide.

The salon is also a leader in supporting clients with hair loss from alopecia and cancer treatment, providing wigs and wig care services as well as specialist hair extensions. Salon Ten works with the NHS to provide wigs and is registered with the Little Princess Trust providing real hair wigs free of charge to children who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment or other illnesses.

Nicky is a L’Oreal Colour Specialist and a Wella Master Colour Expert and has been an educator for Great Lengths Hair Extensions for the past four years, travelling all over the UK and Ireland. Suppliers, Philip Kingsley, L’Oreal, Jessica and Dermalogica are regular visitors in the salon to train the staff on their latest products and techniques.

Nicky said: “Winning the award is a great recognition and reflects the hard work and effort that my team and I put in to make the Salon Ten experience so special.  It is especially rewarding because we were in competition with all sorts of businesses across the spectrum and the level of competition was so high.

“We are proud to have achieved this fantastic award which now takes pride of place in our salon and it is a great incentive for us all to continue and improve our service still further.

“In an industry that is constantly changing, we aim to be a pioneer, trying new products and offering our clients the very latest hair and beauty services.

“Everybody is involved with the success of the salon, and this latest award is truly a team effort that we should all be proud of.”
